i’m making the switch from oils to acrylics. i’m using golden’s open acrylics, which are supposed to simulate the feel of oils, but fall short. everything from the fluidity to the smell is off.
but there are upsides. paintbrushes can now be cleaned with water instead of turpentine, and the lack of authentic smell also means […]
over the holiday break, i completed a mural in our second floor bathroom. it’s an intimate space, and the mural ended up wrapping around three of the room’s four walls.
mural painting is, of course, very different from the paintings on canvas i typically do, and i often found myself sore in the mornings from the […]
with the fresh light of spring and a feeling of near finish on the current series, i have not only been spending more time in the studio, but also finding myself frustrated with how uncomfortable the studio makes me feel. so, in hopes of keeping my spirits high, i’ve rearranged - the furniture, the paintings, […]

ladies and gentlemen, allow me to present the amazing work of aron wiesenfeld.
besides the familiar subject matter, i also find myself intrigued by his use of light, particularly in the charcoal pieces. it’s a beautiful style mix reminiscent of illustrator chris van allsburg and painter john currin.

working smaller allowed […]
as i add final coats of varnish and touch up paintings’ edges, i’ve been doing quite a bit of reflecting on my last series, “the treehouse club”. the first half of the series was painted in saint louis, the last in seattle. definitely a life change for me, though i feel it hardly affected the […]

it’s been at least a decade since i last coloured eggs, and, i must admit, those ten years did wonders for my egg-decorating skills. so these are the masterpieces created by hans and me. dye, wax and permanent marker on eggshell. nfs.

work has been the usual insanity - a fierce yet typical blend of both client and coworker drama. besides leaving me feeling exhausted and without control, i also find myself in an inspirationless rut. so where do i escape to revitalise? to the studio, where i am responsible for everything from inspiration to execution.
my most […]
